Professional Development Opportunities

SAS® Curriculum Pathways® OPD (Online Professional Development) is an asynchronous course, conducted online over 6 weeks. It incorporates a variety of assignments: working through resources as students, evaluating instruction, implementing lessons in the classroom, participating in cooperative learning activities and online discussions, and creating portfolio artifacts (capstone project).

Note: teachers seeking national board certification may wish to incorporate coursework into their portfolios of classroom practice.

Course Objectives
SAS® Curriculum Pathways® OPD is designed for teachers (grades 8-12) in the core disciplines (English, social studies, science, mathematics, and Spanish). Instructional technologists may also participate by partnering with core-discipline teachers to integrate resources into instruction. Course activities and assignments demonstrate how SAS Curriculum Pathways resources can enhance instruction and student learning (see outline).

Through the course, teachers learn to

  • Locate resources by type, topic, and related standard
  • Identify the type of resource best-suited to a particular purpose
  • Use Lesson Guides to determine appropriate match of resources to content standards and instructional objectives
  • Utilize features such as Share, Flags, Search, and Print/Save/E-mail
  • Develop assessments
  • Address various levels of student learning
  • Integrate resources to introduce a concept or topic
  • Reinforce, enhance, and remediate student learning

Continuing Education
SAS does not award Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or renewal credits. Rather, it provides course documentation listing assignments, associated learning objectives, estimated contact/project hours, and points earned (for completed assignments that meet evaluation criteria). We recommend that districts/school systems award 3.0 CEUs to participants who fulfill stated course requirements.

Pricing and Scheduling
The course fee, per educator, is $300. Sessions are conducted throughout the school year for groups of 30 teachers or more. Interested schools, districts, or states should contact our Professional Development Coordinator, Deborah Gray.
