SAS inSchool Science Teacher Awarded Outstanding Technology Educator of the Year

Cary, NC (March 8, 2002) - Scott E. Ring has been named NCAECT Outstanding Technology Educator of the Year for 2001. Scott, pictured at left with media specialist Linda Kiger, is a science teacher and webmaster at Ledford High School in Davidson County, NC. Outstanding Technology Educator of the Year is a new award for the North Carolina Association for Educational Communications and Technology and has been created to recognize exceptional classroom teachers in grades K-12 who utilize technology in teaching and have encouraged unique and innovative education projects in North Carolina schools.

"We are very excited for Scott," said Charley Norkus, SAS inSchool Account Manager for Ledford. "He uses our Visual GeoLibrary with a SmartBoard to show students how to visualize and manipulate concepts related to the state science standards and we've seen the tremendous enthusiasm he generates for the study of his curriculum. In the past year, Ledford High School has shown their strong academic commitment and their vision for preparing students to meet the demands of the twenty-first century." His district technology supervisor, Nancy Sands, nominated Scott. Ledford High School principal, Max Cole, supported his nomination saying, "In my 28 years, I have never found a more deserving candidate for recognition of exemplary teaching."

The Piedmont Triad Education Consortium has named Ledford a Signature School. The NC Department of Public Instruction has acknowledged Ledford's web site as a "Noteworthy Web Site" and noted that Scott's use of the web for his classes is a powerful tool for outreach to parents and the community.
