SAS inSchool to Address Accessibility Atlanta, GA (November 8, 2001) - SAS inSchool announced today that it would begin addressing accessibility issues in the next release of its software. Currently in development, that release is scheduled for delivery at the start of the 2002-2003 school year. In addition, SAS inSchool's Mary Ashley has been named to the advisory board for the International Center for Disability Resources on the Internet (ICDRI). She also leads an internal committee created to develop a Section 508 implementation plan for SAS inSchool's instructional software. "Even though current accessibility guidelines do not directly apply to instructional software, we want our products to address the needs of all students," said Barbara Pendergrass, Associate Director at SAS inSchool. "Mary and her committee are working hard to ensure that we do all we can to address accessibility issues." "We can begin implementing some best practices today," said Ashley. "Although accessibility is not a well-defined area for us right now, through ICDRI we're hoping to work with other companies. That way we can tackle issues collaboratively and, in the process, establish some standards for educational multimedia software."
